How to test a translation

Postby Didier » 08 Mar 2010, 14:05

[edit]: this tool is not needed anymore from version 1.1, see the next post!

If you want to, and you are motivated enough to test your translation (to see if the text fits to the screen), don't worry I will test it anyway.
But if you are really motivated, you can use this tool:
WinMoDof_LanguageTest_V1.0.zip
Language test tool
(127.59 KiB) Downloaded 267 times

Here is the procedure:
- Unzip it everywhere on your pc
- Edit the file Translation.lang with a simple text editor.
- Under the section [[__English__]] add your language with the syntax <LanguageCode>;<LanguageName>
Example for french: fr;Français
The language code can be any text
- Under each section add your translation with the syntax <LanguageCode>;<Translation>
Example for french translation of [[About...]]
Add fr;A propos...
- Once you want to test your translation, double click on buildLangFile.bat
- The file lang.ptb will be generated.
- Replace the existing lang.ptb on your PDA (You should save the original one to be able to go back later)
- Run WinMoDof, and go to options to change the language. Note that the language flag will not display correctly if the language count has changed in the translation.lang file.
- Then you can test your translation

Now from version 1.1, to change, add or remove translation labels you just have to edit the file Translation.lang in the program installation directory (Use a UNICODE compatible editor).
If you add a new language in the file, it will work but you will have a display issue on the button to select the language (issue with the country flag).
